Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean keeps sets of secrets, but, it seems, one will become less soon. Specialists of the Bingemtonsky university (USA) have found explanation as on huge stone idols (moaa) massive hats have appeared (Pukao). The weight of largest "headdress" reaches 12 tons.
To understand how inhabitants of Easter Island have put on multiton hats stone idols, scientists have created three-dimensional models of statues and have analysed the defects on blocks which have appeared about transportation. Inhabitants of Easter Island were very inventive and have found the way demanding the smallest efforts and resources for achievement of the purposes.
Hats and idols have been cut out from different volcanic breeds and were delivered from different points of the island. Statues (height of some exceeds 10 meters, and weight reaches 80 tons) have been cut out with a small inclination forward so ancient sculptors could move them without special devices. Was to shake and incline the idol enough as we move, for example, the refrigerator now. Later, already on the location, the basis of statues was leveled.
Preparations for hats were cut out so that they could be rolled on the island. Already near future owner they were given the cylindrical or conical form. Scientists have assumed that all Pukao rose by the heads of idols in approximately identical way, and looked for on them identical marks.
Deepenings in the basis which corresponded to cambers on the heads of statues were the general for all hats. If Pukao were set up over directly standing statues, these traces on soft breed shouldn't have remained. The version according to which hats climbed a temporary flooring to located at an angle moa seems to the most plausible. Workers tightened Pukao on ropes on such "ramp" to move a hat on the statue head. Then platforms understood (their traces still it is possible to notice near some moa), and statues were leveled.
