The young inventor from the Netherlands Boyan Slat has set for himself the big object – to clean the World Ocean from plastic which is pernicious for its inhabitants. On the account of the 23-year-old scientist there are already several projects, first of which he has thought up in 2 years. And in 14 years he has launched at the same time 213 water missiles for what he was included in the Guinness Book of Records.
In 2011, having a rest in Greece, Boyan Slat has noticed that under water more plastic, than fishes floats.
The young genius has thought up a way to solve this problem. A few years ago he has presented the system of floating barriers to interception of garbage and has won a special prize of Institute of technology in Delft.
In 2013 Boyan has set up The Ocean Cleanup foundation which was engaged in studying of a problem, and has collected more than 2 million dollars of investments.
Also Netherlands scientist has organized an expedition to the Big Pacific garbage spot for collecting samples of that garbage that there floats.
Scientists have counted in a big garbage spot 80 thousand tons of plastic on 1,6 million square kilometers. They have presented the researches in the report on 530 pages.
These data have allowed to develop Bojana the system of floating barriers.
They represent autonomous platforms of couple of kilometers collect even the smallest garbage, at the same time underwater inhabitants are capable to avoid independently hit in system.
The scientist assumes that in five years his system will be able to clean a half of the Big Pacific garbage spot.
The first practical tests have taken place at coast of Japan. The system is planned to be started in the summer of this year.
